Safety Director directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Being a Safety Director provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. Additionally, Safety Director implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Safety Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. The House Director resides at the house.
The House Director is a representative of the chapter house and must possess superb managerial and communications skills. She must be comfortable working closely with collegiate men, alumnae volunteers, staff, and vendors/contractors. The House Director must keep their focus during emergency situations, and must also understand the need for discretion and maintaining confidentiality. She must be accessible and approachable. Attention to detail and careful record-keeping are also important attributes. In addition to the specific duties detailed below, the House Director shall perform such other job duties as assigned by the chapter or house corporation, from time to time.
