Safety Director directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Being a Safety Director provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. Additionally, Safety Director implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.     Job Purpose
    The Center for Engineering, Design, & Entrepreneurship (CEDE) is an integral part of the educational mission of the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS). The main deliverable for CEDE is the Senior Design experience which is required for all SEAS students. The Academic Director (AD) reports to the Dean of SEAS and has responsibilities for both day-to-day and long-term activities within CEDE. This position requires developing and maintaining strong professional relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including students, faculty, staff, project sponsors, liaisons, and volunteers. The AD works to maintain a smoothly functioning center and program within budget. Additionally, the AD works to enable innovative educational opportunities in design and entrepreneurship through extracurricular events and the administration of the student project labs and associated equipment.

    • The AD is responsible for working directly with department representatives and administration to ensure educational needs are satisfied for the students of the senior design program.
    • The AD anticipates the needs of the senior design program for projects, personnel, and finances each year and works with sponsors and departments to satisfy anticipated student needs.
    • The AD is responsible for logistics and coordination of the senior design program with the registrar and academic scheduling.
    • The AD works with the department representatives to establish a senior design calendar and associated events which meet the common scheduling and event needs of all parties involved.
    • The AD works with key resource and support teams within SEAS and the university to promote student utilization and appropriate behavior within the senior design program and other CEDE endeavors. (e.g., Manufacturing Technology Center, Herak Engineering Computer Center, Foley Library, Information Technology Center, Student Projects Labs)

    • The AD maintains relationships with sponsors of CEDE who supply projects and revenue in support of senior design projects.
    • The AD identifies potential new sponsors and works to solicit projects while informing them of the operations and benefits of a participation in CEDE and SEAS.
    • The AD coordinates with the departments and collects data to establish the needs of the coming year’s projects.
    • The AD works with general counsel and university administration to support the execution of necessary project agreement contracts with sponsors as well as administering necessary agreements to project participants.
    • The AD supports the departments in soliciting a group of volunteer professionals who help the student teams with their specialized knowledge and experience (known as the Design Advisory Board).
    • The AD supports the departments in the logistics & communication of hiring and assigning adjunct faculty members of projects.
    • The AD develops necessary marketing and communications tools to appropriately solicit projects and personnel.

      • The AD monitors and supports administering equipment to students and employees at high utilization.
      • The AD documents and adds new equipment as it becomes available.
      • The AD looks for opportunities to implement new high-utilization equipment.
