Safety Director directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Being a Safety Director provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. Additionally, Safety Director implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Safety Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.   • A Safety Director responsible for developing and implementing safety programs to prevent or correct unsafe acts and or conditions.

    Required:

    • Knowledge of OSHA standards with regard to construction.
    • Ability to train, influence and motivate team members.
    • Ability to navigate and appropriately evaluate risk and alternatives under stressful situations.
    • Ability to work with confidential information.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Update and maintain the company’s safety program and implement procedures to ensure all company operations are conducted in a safe manner.
    • Visit job sites to conduct safety audits on personnel, equipment and materials at least once every two weeks using Procore audit form. Review audit results with the Superintendent. Monitor weekly audits from Superintendents and follow up as necessary.
    • Evaluates regulations and governing documents to determine potential impact and required action from company operations.
    • Preparation of and execution of site-specific safety plans including both self-perform and subcontracted high-risk activity plans.
    • Implement accident prevention programs, monitors and records unsafe acts, and reports results regularly to management.
    • Ensure safety programs are communicated to and followed by employees, subcontractors & suppliers.
    • Work with Safety Coordinator on administrative documentation.
    • Inspect safety equipment, machinery, and facilities to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Manage fall-protection equipment and review for replacement.
    • Conduct safety training and orientation to educate employees about safety policies, laws and practices, including Crisis Management training. Coordinate with outside training vendors as needed.
    • Investigate accidents to minimize recurrence and reviews accident reports. Includes documenting via Safety Flashes and follow-up education for similar work activities.
    • Develop and administer the light duty and back to work program. Coordinate with Insurance Company for potential claim management and refer workers to PT provider as needed.
    • Coordinate with company’s insurance carriers to facilitate communication, challenge or handle claims, and effect insurance company recommendations as appropriate.
    • Track required training, schedule and process for recording.
    • Oversee that proper paperwork is processed in accordance with rules and regulations including training records.
    • Respond to OSHA, state or local inspections.
    • Attend VJS safety team/committee meetings.
    • Be an active member of Milwaukee AGC / Wisconsin Council Safety and American Society of Engineers.
    • Develop monthly report to the President/CEO and present on said report.
    • Act as a Safety Resource while mentoring project staff on safety needs and requirements.
    • Lead, develop and mentor members of safety team.

    Direct Hire Salary-$100,000-$130,000
