    POSITION SUMMARY: Provides leadership for district strategic planning and school improvement processes. Provides leadership in the academic areas of curriculum, instruction, assessment, professional learning, and federal programs. Ensures ongoing evaluation of programs to determine effectiveness. Provides leadership for accountability processes, grants, research, state reporting, and data management. Supervises the Teaching and Learning Department. Serves as a member of the Superintendent’s cabinet.

    Duties And Responsibilities

    • Collaborates with the Superintendent, Directors, Principals, and other district and site staff to develop and implement programs aligned to the district’s strategic plan designed to ensure a high level of student achievement.
    • Provides leadership in planning and conducting curriculum studies including special programs for new courses, funding, staffing requirements, and curriculum impact in all areas.
    • Participates in the selection of textbooks and guides textbook and other instructional material usage.
    • Interprets the instructional programs and policies of the district to staff, students, and the community.
    • Analyzes and interprets results of district and state assessments, determines trends, and makes recommendations to the Superintendent, Principals, and staff.
    • Reports to the board on the status, requirements, and needs of district programs at the request of the superintendent.
    • Upon request of principals, conduct school visits for instructional coaching.
    • Works with district staff in establishing comprehensive professional development programs and activities aligned with district goals.
    • Provides support to district and school leadership teams for continuous improvement.
    • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility through developing, managing, and monitoring teaching and learning budgets.
    • Applies for and initiates grant-writing activity to expand available resources and maintains appropriate data files and records as required for state and federal grants and programs.
    • Coordinates event and program requests from community agencies.
    • Coordinates district-wide data retreats to analyze the effectiveness of instructional programs and their impact on student learning.
    • Recommends assignment and employment of personnel in areas of supervision to the superintendent.
    • Participates in staff meetings, and professional learning, serve on staff committees, and attend training sessions as required.
    • Serves as the district liaison for post-secondary universities and colleges.
    • Collaborates with the superintendent to assist directors with the development and monitoring of the district’s strategic plan.
    • Serves as the district’s accountability liaison with the State Department of Education developing policies, procedures, and guidelines related to curriculum and instruction.
    • Coordinates the district’s Continuous Improvement Cycle to ensure continuous improvement within the district.
    • Oversees and coordinates AdvancED district accreditation.
    • Ensures timely and accurate reporting for state data collections.
    • Works to achieve a cooperative, coordinated team approach through the involvement of Directors, Principals, and other district staff in the maintenance and improvement of curriculum and instructional practices within the district.
    • Follow federal and state laws, and abide by all Code of Ethics for Educators, as well as School Board Policies.
    • Maintains a pattern of prompt and regular attendance.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    CERTIFICATION/LICENSE/EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:

    Valid Georgia Certification in Educational Leadership at the Doctorate (L-7) or Specialist (L-6) Level. Ten (10) or more years of successful teaching experience and/or leadership experience. Appropriate training and experience in instructional management, curriculum planning, implementation, and evaluation.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    Supervises and annually evaluates the Teaching and Learning Department Staff.
