Using data-driven decision-making , works in partnership with all administrators and district personnel to assess and pursue the needs of the School Department. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises and evaluates School Department staff as assigned; assists in the interview and hiring process to ensure the hiring of highly qualified teachers and administrators; collaborates with building principals, assists with faculty and employee assignments and scheduling. Organizes and manages educational reforms and related activities. Develops and implements a professional development plan for teachers and administrators; collaborates with other school districts to provide professional development opportunities; provides internal training as appropriate. Seeks out partnerships with other educational and non-educational organizations to improve service delivery to students and faculty. Develops, refines and implements local assessment systems. Serves as the school department testing coordinator, home school coordinator, school improvement coordinator, strategic planning facilitator, Title IV, Title VII, Title IX, and 504 coordinator. Develops and administers the Consolidated Resource Plan with the Superintendent. Writes grant proposals and monitors grant awards; supervises federal and state program funding. Provides support in planning and organizing visits with: New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) Rhode Island Department of Education; and Any other visits deemed important by the Superintendent of Schools Serves as School Department liaison to the Rhode Island Department of Education, East Bay Collaborative, and other organizations as needed. Participates in curriculum meetings to determine departmental needs; facilitates curriculum writing in all content areas based upon established standards; analyzes district standardized scores to improve instruction; researches current instructional trends and initiatives; evaluates school curriculum, instruction and assessment implementation. Responsible for review and purchase of high quality, research-based instructional materials and programs; participates in the supervision of the selection and purchase of textbooks and instructional materials and collaboration with private schools for textbook needs and federal services. Assists with the implementation of the Department’s professional development plan; collaborates with administrators and other school districts as necessary to provide professional development opportunities; assists with the provision of internal training; participates in the revision and administration of the teacher evaluation process. Participates in district strategic planning. Administers, coordinates, and supervises reading/literacy, Title I and Title II programs and Title III. Attends meetings of the School Committee, East Bay Educational Collaborative, and RI Department of Education as necessary or assigned. Monitors all curriculum implementation. Serves as the Department’s Homeless Liaison. Serves as a resource for school principals. Ensures the enforcement of all local, state and federal regulations and policies governing the School Department. Assists in the preparation and administration of the School Department annual budget. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution required. Must possess a valid Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) Superintendent’s Certificate/Principal’s certificate, and must maintain said certificate as a condition of employment. Must have at least five (5) years of teaching experience. Must have at least five (5) years of experience as a school based administrator. Must have active listening and decision-making skills. Must be highly motivated and enthusiastic with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
