Scientist - Clinical Research assumes lead role in various clinical research projects. Proposes, plans, organizes and executes experiments and research. Being a Scientist - Clinical Research secures grants and funding for research and is responsible for controlling budgets. Summarizes findings in reports and communicates results. Additionally, Scientist - Clinical Research interacts with other scientists within and outside of the organization. Provides recommendations that influence extensive clinical research activities. Requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to head of a unit/department. The Scientist - Clinical Research work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.   • Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

    • Contribute to ongoing major research projects, as well as provide input into new directions for existing program areas.
    • Lead or participate in successful proposals for new research studies that meaningfully support or extend Arbor Research’s portfolio.
    • Develop and carry out methodological and/or applied research leading to peer-reviewed publications, reports to sponsoring agencies, and other dissemination strategies. Research agendas will be formulated to target both individual and organizational development goals, and may be supported by funded project activity and dedicated organizational resources.
    • Provide scientific and operational oversight for research projects, often including as a principal investigator or project director. Work with a Project Manager to oversee the management of individual and team tasks and timelines.
    • Direct study protocol development and analytic approaches. Provide mentorship and/or guidance to the analytic staff.
    • Present seminars, talks, and lectures externally on behalf of Arbor Research, and internally for staff advancement and education.
    • Work creatively to identify additional ways to translate research findings into improving health services practice and policy.
    • Lead projects including those focused on providing expert technical assistance to clients or health care organizations, implementation of health policies or health care delivery models, monitoring, program evaluation, and learning collaboratives.
    • Provide operational oversight for projects, often including as a project director, deputy project director, or task lead. Work with a Project Manager to oversee the management of individual and team tasks and Build and maintain relationships with project sponsors, external partners, and internal managers and staff.

    Supervision

    Formal supervision is provided by a program director, distinguished research scientist, or senior research scientist who may or may not also be the formal mentor.

     

    Required Qualifications

    • Typical candidates have a PhD, ScD, or DrPH in health services research, health policy, public health, health economics, biostatistics, epidemiology, or related social science field. Candidates with MD or DO with relevant additional training or experience are also considered; candidates with a Master’s degree and substantial additional experience are also considered.
    • Typical candidates with a PhD, ScD, or DrPH have at least two years of highly relevant postdoctoral experience; candidates with demonstrated success and other combinations of education and work experience are also considered.
    • Capability to succeed in research, as demonstrated by development of specific content-area expertise, lead or senior authorship on refereed publications, and/or invited presentations
    • Demonstrated potential for success in a leadership role for research projects, as well as securing funding for new projects consistent with the Arbor Research mission
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Strong mentoring skills possibly including supervisory or teaching experience
    • Ability to travel, including international, with several nights away from home per year

     

    Annual Salary Range

    $99,800 – $164,200

     

    This position is classified as exempt according to FLSA guidelines
