Marion Ag, a rapidly growing company, based in Saint Paul, Oregon, has been in business for over 40 years. Marion Ag provides fertilizer and other farm and nursery supplies to both wholesale and retail customers, locally and internationally.

Marion Ag currently has an open position in their Special Projects Department for a Paint Shop Technician. Only qualified candidates with auto/industrial painting experience will be considered.

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Operate spray painting and sandblasting equipment per customer specifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Spray paints industrial and heavy equipment. Cleans grease, dirt, dried concrete, old paint, and rust from equipment, using solvent, water, rags, brushes, pneumatic wire brush, and chipping hammer. Abrades surfaces of metal or hard-composition objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt, and to impart specified finish, using abrasive-blasting equipment: Shovels or pours abrasives, such as sand, grit, or shot of specified grade into machine hopper.
• Cleans and prepares surface for painting, using air-powered sandblasting equipment.
• For painting: Applies paper and masking tape to protect unpainted surfaces, such as windows and trim.
• Selects paint according to company color scheme and specifications. Stirs paint, pours paint into spray container, and applies primer or finish coat of paint, using spray gun.
• Paints areas inaccessible to spray gun, using paint brush. Disassembles paint and sandblasting equipment and cleans equipment, using solvent, wire brushes, and dry cloth.
• Turns valves on equipment to regulate pressure and composition of abrasive mixture flowing through nozzle or into tumbling barrel.
• Starts equipment that directs blast or flow of abrasive-laden compressed air, gas, or liquid over surface of parts.
• Manually directs nozzle over surface of large parts or inserts arms through glove-fitted cabinet openings and manipulates small parts under nozzle for specified interval.
• Examine finished parts to ensure conformance to specifications.
• Clean up the area after the assigned job is completed by carefully following all guidelines for the safe handling and disposal of hazardous chemicals and waste. Maintain painting equipment in excellent condition. General use of forklifts.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• High school diploma and 2 years of related experience specifically in a industrial paint and/or maintenance environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Very detailed oriented and self-motivated with strong organizational skills
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written communications
• Ability to analyze and solve problems
• Ability to work with others collaboratively

This position is full-time, not exempt from overtime. The scheduled shift for this position is: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Overtime is required.
