Staff Nurse - RN - Occupational Health jobs in Minnesota

Staff Nurse - RN - Occupational Health provides professional nursing care to on-site employees. Treats occupational injuries and illnesses, referring patients to emergency care facilities or outside medical resources as needed. Being a Staff Nurse - RN - Occupational Health performs pre-employment physical examinations, including vision and hearing screenings, blood work, and other related tests. Maintains employee medical records and ensures that record-keeping procedures comply with legal and confidentiality requirements. Additionally, Staff Nurse - RN - Occupational Health may be responsible for administering flu vaccination, workers' compensation, disability, and/or employee health and safety training programs. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent. Requires a Registered Nurse (RN) license. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Staff Nurse - RN - Occupational Health work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.     Qualifications:

    • Completion of an accredited professional nursing program
    • Current and unrestricted Minnesota Registered Nurse license; occupational health certification preferred
    • BLS certification
    • Certified Professional Collector® preferred or able to obtain within three months of hire
    • Breath Alcohol Technician certification for CMI Intoxilyzer 240/240D Evidential Breath Tester preferred or able to obtain within three months of hire
    • NIOSH-approved Spirometry certification preferred or able to obtain within 18 months of hire
    • Knowledge of employee health and occupational health principles and practices, including OSHA, ADA, FMLA, and Workers Compensation regulations
    • Organized, detail-oriented, and proficient computer skills
    • Minimum of one year nursing experience preferred
    • Valid Minnesota driver’s license

    Job Responsibilities:

    Practice of Professional Nursing includes but is not limited to:

    • Providing a comprehensive assessment of the health status of a patient through the collection, analysis, and synthesis of data used to establish a health status baseline and plan of care. The RN also addresses changes in the patient condition. Collaborates with the healthcare team to develop and coordinate an integrated plan of care.
    • Develops nursing interventions to be integrated into the plan of care.
    • Implements nursing care through the execution of independent nursing actions.
    • Implements interventions that are delegated, ordered, or prescribed by a licensed healthcare provider.
    • Delegates nursing tasks or assigns nursing activities to implement the plan of care.
    • Provides safe and effective nursing care.
    • Promotes a safe and therapeutic environment.
    • Advocates for the best interests of individual patients.
    • Evaluates responses to interventions and the effectiveness of the plan of care.
    • Collaborates and coordinates with other healthcare professionals in the management and implementation of care within and across care settings and communities.
    • Provides health promotion, disease prevention, care coordination, and case finding.
    • Designs and implements teaching plans based on patient need and evaluates teaching effectiveness.
    • Participates in the development of healthcare policies, procedures, and systems.
    • Accountable for the quality of care delivered, recognizing the limits of knowledge and experience; addresses situations beyond the nurse’s competency; and performs at the level of education, knowledge, and skill ordinarily expected if an individual has completed an approved professional nursing education program.
    • Manages, supervises, and evaluates the practice of nursing.
    • Maintains OMC organization competencies and nursing competencies pertinent to area of practice.
    • Manages information in accordance with state and federal regulations.
    • Performs occupational health ancillary services including, but not limited to, drug/alcohol screening, laboratory blood draws, spirometry (PFT) testing, respiratory fit testing, and electrocardiogram testing.
    • Conducts Corporate Care training including, but not limited to, blood borne pathogens, hazardous exposures, reasonable suspicion, and personal protective equipment.
    • Case management of employees returning to work after illness, injury, surgical, or other physically-limiting factors that require provisions of the environment, including worker’s compensation injuries.
    • Other duties as assigned.
