Staff Nurse - RN, Sr. - Medical Management leads the coordination between care providers and plan members with the goal of maximizing member benefits while managing costs. Oversees the assessment of medical necessity of procedures and/or admissions, conducts pre-certification or authorization, and ensures compliance with established guidelines. Being a Staff Nurse - RN, Sr. - Medical Management assists members in appeals for denied services. Interprets benefits and guides members to choose to the appropriate providers, projects and resources. Additionally, Staff Nurse - RN, Sr. - Medical Management applies the medical and reimbursement policies within the claim adjudication process. Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Nursing. Typically reports to a manager. Requires RN license. To be a Staff Nurse - RN, Sr. - Medical Management typically requires more than 5 years of related experience. - Adheres to scope of RN practice as outlined by the MS Board of Nursing, regulatory standards and hospital policy
- Maintains profession and technical knowledge and pursues professional growth opportunities
- Supervises and supports the LPN, Nursing Assistant, Nurse Tech, Behavior Health Techs and student
- Serves as positive role model and in the preceptor role for new staff and students
- Keeping access to protected health information secure and confidential
- Collaborates with physician and multidisciplinary team to address patient needs
- Appropriately seeks help or guidance from supervisor or other resource people
- Adapts to change and prioritizes work
- Demonstrates reliable attendance, reports on time and is ready to work at beginning of shift
- Completes assigned duties, willingly accepts assignments and assist others to complete work on time
- Willing to support unit’s staffing needs by occasionally adjusting work schedule, staying late or working extra
- Establishes a safe, compassionate, caring environment for patients and their family
- Establishes a safe, supportive work environment that promotes teamwork
- Core Duties:
- Coordinates patient care by scheduling, consulting and organizing patient activities
- Performs admission and ongoing patient assessment and responds appropriately to findings
- Establishes a Plan of Care for each patient to address acute physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
- Promotes patient engagement by considering specific needs, values and preferences
- Establishes care goals, teaches patient/family about health conditions, medications, and self-care skills
- Develops discharge plan individualized for patient/ family needs that prevents hospital readmissions
- Accurately and completely documents assessments and nursing care in the patient’s medical record
- Promotes continuity of care by reporting activities, incidences, and changing patient needs to next caregiver
- Demonstrates infection prevention behaviors, consistent hand washing and use of appropriate PPEs
- Adheres to safe medication administration while preparing, administering, documenting and monitoring meds
- Recognizes safety risk and implements prevention plan for falls, skin breakdown and injury
- Contributes to the department’s performance improvement activities
- Demonstrates competency in performance of clinical skills
