Overview

Performs a variety of housekeeping duties.  Uses a variety of cleaning devices and solutions. 

Responsibilities

• Thorough understanding of floor care equipment and products.
• Keeps supervisors informed of technical problem w/ equipment.
• Equipment tagged when broken.
• Understands cleaning process for floor care.
• Properly sweeps/mops floor before beginning floor care.
• Understands and practices proper infection control techniques.
• Communicates effectively before leaving to indicate status of work and work required for following day.
• Floor care equipment is properly drained and wiped down after use.
• Always announces presence by knocking on patient/resident room before entering.
• Returns all equipment and supplies to storeroom after use.
• Organizes floor care/equipment room as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

• Able to read and perform basic math and reading computations.

Experience:

• Two (2) years experience as waxer/stripper.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Ability to work in surroundings with degree of dust, noise, etc. without undue discomfort.
• Ability to hear, talk, walk, stand, bend and stretch.
• Ability to read, write and interpret documents.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time at required patient bedside and/or procedural areas.
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients and/or co-workers.
• May be exposed to mechanical/electrical/radiant/explosive/burn and chemical hazards.
• May be required to handle, dispose of and/or identify hazardous waste and hazardous materials.
• May be required to operate and clean equipment.
• May be required to work both indoor/outdoor under extreme temperatures.
• May be required to handle reasonably heavy weights across distances.
• May be required to handle/ assist in lifting patients onto/out of exam beds/procedure stations.
• May be required to operate heavy vehicles.
• Must be trained in and knowledgeable of all Kingsbrook/Rutland policies and procedures pertaining to hazardous waste and hazardous materials and maintain qualifications applicable to assigned work.
• Other: Knowledge of all codes and demonstrate understanding.
• Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue.

Physical Requirements:

• Physically demanding, high-stress environment requiring prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day. 
• Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds for routine performance of essential functions.
• Sitting, standing, and walking for extensive periods of time.
