  • Arcadis has been shortlisted by the Gateway Development Commission to serve as a Project Delivery Partner (PDP) in connection with the Hudson Tunnel Project (HTP).  We are seeking to engage with technical experts excited by this opportunity who would like to join our locally based teams in New York and in New Jersey.  Arcadis seeks a Sustainability Manager to join the Gateway Program Project Delivery Partner in New York/New Jersey to play a vital role in supporting the Gateway Program to develop and implement sustainability strategies specific to the Program. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience from having implemented sustainability initiatives in the rail transit/tunnel/transportation sector.

    Role description:

    The Sustainability Manager will play a critical role in leading the integration of sustainability principles and practices throughout the HTP (Hudson Tunnel Project). The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in engineering and/or environmental sciences, with a minimum of 10 years of experience working on sustainability projects that has been certified under LEED and/or Envision projects. Ideal candidate should also have a LEED and ENV SP credential. The Sustainability Manager will be instrumental in driving the sustainability agenda for the HTP project and ensuring its successful implementation. They will report to the Director of Sustainability at GDC and work closely with project teams, stakeholders, and partners to achieve sustainability goals and deliver a project that meets the highest environmental standards.

    Role accountabilities:

    Design Phase:

    • Assist with design charrettes/workshops for GTHP package managers and design teams.
    • Refine sustainability specifications and checklists in collaboration with GTHP sustainability team members.

    Construction Phase:

    • Attend Weekly CM meetings and site visits
    • Assist with orientation workshops for the construction management (CM) teams.
    • Work with construction team/contractor sustainability representative to implement Envision construction credits
    • Verify construction submittals as it pertains to Envision compliance and document them.

    Manage Envision Related Reporting and Documentation:

    • Collect design documentation from GTHP and design/build teams.
    • Prepare and submit design documentation to the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) Project Manager.
    • Coordinate responses to ISI comments as needed.

    Qualifications & Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or related field.
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience working on LEED and/or Envision projects.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, Proficiency in project management and data analysis.
    • Strong team player with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

    Preferred Skills:

    • Previous experience in sustainability management within the construction industry, with a strong understanding of sustainable building practices, green building certifications, and relevant regulations.
    • Proficiency in conducting life cycle assessments, analyzing environmental impacts, and developing sustainability strategies.
    • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and coordinate cross-functional teams effectively.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels and effectively communicate complex sustainability concepts.
    • Knowledge of renewable energy technologies, energy efficiency measures, waste management practices, and sustainable materials preferred.
    • Certification in relevant sustainability standards (e.g., LEED AP, BREEAM Assessor) is advantageous.
    • Commitment to sustainability principles, environmental conservation, and social responsibility
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse teams.

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $150,000.
