POSITION TITLE: ADULT EDUCATION TEACHER
QUALIFICATIONS:
REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Adult Education
JOB GOAL: To work with district staff to develop and provide curriculum, instruction, and a classroom atmosphere that accommodates the unique learning styles, learning rates, interests, abilities, and social/emotional needs of adult education students.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for teaching Adult Basic Education, basic skills courses using instructional methods geared toward the adult learner in a classroom setting.
2. Plan lessons and curriculum based on the learning needs of culturally diverse and multi-skill level students which prepare students to pass the GED tests and/or enhance basic education skills.
3. Responsible for teaching the GED test areas (literature, writing, social studies, science, and math) or adult basic education skills areas (writing, math, language).
4. Plan and prepare relevant and practical class lessons and monitors students’ performance.
5. Implement a variety of instructional delivery methods that include group or individualized instruction, as well as, computer programs that help students make learning gains.
6. Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
7. Perform a variety of tasks.
8. Administer TABE tests to determine individual progress.
9. Create a climate that encourages and supports learning.
10. May lead and direct the work of others.
11. Complete and maintain appropriate student registration, attendance, and assessment records.
12. Ensure timely submission of data for NRS input.
13. Responsible for effective classroom management that enhances student learning.
14. Perform other duties as assigned by the coordinator.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary Range: Teacher Salary Schedule. (Placement depends upon education and experience.)
Length of Contract: 190 days per contract year

The performance of this job will be evaluated according to provisions of the Board's policy on the Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
