    POSITION SUMMARY

    Support the Advising Office and department of Student Success and Engagement through direct service to students, programming, and department administration. Provide holistic academic advising and coaching to an assigned caseload of students. Help students develop academic plans and register for classes, identify career and transfer pathways, assist students experiencing academic and personal difficulties, and make referrals to appropriate campus and community resources. Act as the College transfer coordinator and primary transfer advisor. Coordinate programs and projects related to student success, retention, and student engagement.

    Support student success as outlined with department goals, the strategic plan, and the advances of the mission of Marion Technical College (the "College").

    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Academic Advising – 50%

    • Provide academic advising to an assigned caseload of students for successful course, goal, or degree completion, with a focus on Associate of Arts/Associate of Science and Business majors, as well as other technical majors and non-degree/transient students taking courses for transfer. Advise students on matters of curriculum, course and degree requirements, placement, career exploration, registration, graduation, and transfer options, and make referrals to campus resources as appropriate. Maintain accurate advising records.
    • Develop individualized academic plans using My Plan (Watermark Student Success and Engagement) and monitor student progress toward degree completion. Contact each advisee each semester to register and plan for upcoming terms, making adjustments as needed.
    • Support students experiencing academic and personal issues and concerns. Assess students for non-academic risk factors and identify barriers for academic retention and completion. Make referrals to appropriate student services office or external agencies for additional support. Work with other offices on behalf of students to facilitate problem resolution and empower students to advocate for themselves.
    • Monitor students’ academic performance and progress. Intervene with students who are not reaching their academic goals. Perform outreach to students who receive an early alert for academic or course concerns, attendance, or midterm grade reports. Coach students on academic warning or probation to help them return to good academic standing and complete academic goals and/or degree program.
    • Serve as the primary transfer advisor for the college, assisting students with exploring transfer options that align with their academic interests and career goals, selecting appropriate transferable coursework, applying to transfer institutions, addressing questions about the transfer matriculation process, transfer scholarships, etc. Maintain a strong working knowledge of Ohio Guaranteed Transfer Pathways (OGTP) and MTC institutional transfer partner programs, but also use appropriate resources to help students identify other options as desired.
    • Work with the College Registrar to perform degree audits for assigned advisees who petition to graduate to ensure all degree requirements have been met.

    Transfer Coordination – 25%

    • Act as the institutional transfer coordinator (outbound). Collaborate with academic deans, directors, and faculty on identifying transfer partnerships, reviewing articulation agreements, and developing pathway programs. Serve as a liaison to transfer institution partners. Maintain records of active articulation agreements and review regularly to ensure timely renewal, when appropriate. Develop and maintain degree maps (2 2, 3 1) for transfer pathways at partner institutions.
    • Assist with the marketing and promotion of transfer pathways in collaboration with Admissions, College Credit Plus (CCP), Marketing, and academic departments. Maintain content on the website related to (outbound) transfer. Participate in Admissions and CCP events as needed. Coordinate, schedule, and promote transfer institution campus visits.
    • Stay current on changes occurring at the Ohio Department of Higher Education as it pertains to transfer and general education. Attend Ohio Articulation and Transfer Network and Ohio Transfer Council meetings. Maintain a strong working knowledge of the Ohio Transfer 36 (OT36), Transfer Assurance Guides (TAG), Career-Technical Assurance Guides (CTAG), and Ohio Guaranteed Transfer Pathways (OGTP).

    Administration & Programming – 25%

    • Coordinate training and ongoing development of professional staff and faculty advisors. Develop and distribute training materials and lead training sessions. Create and maintain asynchronous online advisor training program and resource site. Gain a thorough knowledge of advising related policies and procedures to assist faculty and staff with questions in the absence of the Executive Director.
    • Develop and/or administer special programs and/or projects to support department operations and student success and retention initiatives as assigned. Assist with program assessment, evaluation, and reporting.
    • Assist with oversight of advising processes such as advisor assignments, major changes, pre-requisite checks, academic standing notices, enrollment tracking, placement, etc.
    • Help plan and facilitate New Student Orientation in collaboration with the advising staff that orients students to college, supports student success, and promotes sense of belonging. Assist with tracking event registration, participation, and program assessment. Manage the online orientation program and update as needed each term.
    • Participate in campus and community events such as student recruitment activities, community outreach events, career fairs, and related as needed. Attend College meetings and serve on departmental and College committees as assigned.
    • Support the administration of technology and software used in the department, including Watermark Student Success and Engagement (advising and retention management), Accudemia (appointment management system), and Comevo (online orientation). Stay current on software updates, assist with implementation, and provide training to end users.

    General Responsibilities

    • Develop a thorough knowledge of College academic program requirements and curriculums, admission criteria, courses, financial aid processes, transfer pathways, and other internal and external student services and effectively communicate/relay this information to students. Assist in the development, implementation, and interpretation of policies and procedures in accordance with College policy.
    • Utilize College information systems to validate student data and update student files and information. Maintain accurate case files and required data for reporting system(s) to ensure student progress is documented and compliant with applicable regulations. Maintain user proficiency for software programs, systems, and databases used by the College.
    • Develop professional opportunities within the scope of work responsibilities, department, and college goals. Demonstrate self-motivation and ability to research and continually update knowledge and skills, as well as provide input and accept additional and changing work responsibilities. Maintain any required training, licensure, and/or certification required.
    • Respond to inquiries from students, employees, high school partners, parents, and customers in a timely manner. Maintain standards of confidentiality and privacy in accordance with the College, FERPA, student records, and any other protected documentation.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Bachelor’s degree (from a regionally accredited college or university) required. Master's degree (from a regionally accredited college or university) in higher education, college student personnel, counseling, social work, education, or related strongly preferred. Minimum three years higher education experience in academic advising or related student support services area required. Knowledge of guided pathways advising, appreciative advising, and holistic student supports strongly desired. Must have strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to work independently and complete projects with minimal direction and oversight with high attention to detail. Strong computer and technology skills and ability to learn new technology/software easily; experience with education software and related technology strongly preferred. Experience with assessment desired. Demonstrated sensitivity, understanding, and respect of diverse populations within the workplace. Any combination of work experience, training, and/or education equivalent may be accepted. Willingness to work an irregular schedule as assigned. Ability to successfully pass a background check, prior to and after employment. Valid driver’s license or dependable transportation required.

    ADA SPECIFICATIONS

    This position is classified as Staff - Management, Professional, Administrative, and Support and will perform a wide range of professional and administrative support functions for the college, primarily in an office setting.
