Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role as a Technical Director at Anchor Paint Manufacturing Co. located in Tulsa, OK. The Technical Director will oversee the company's research and development, quality control, and process improvement activities. This position will also supervise and coordinate laboratory personnel in performing chemical and physical tests required for quality control of processes and products, and the development of product improvements and new products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Directs and supervises the work of the laboratory staff. Selects, trains, and appraises personnel and recommends associated personnel actions. Defines individual and group responsibilities; determines priorities and deadlines; and evaluates the quality and effectiveness of individual work.
- Develops standards for the evaluation of the department's performance against standards. Initiates changes or corrections to program processes to ensure the quality and consistency of the work produced and efficient utilization of manpower.
- Prepares reports covering the department's activities, costs, operations, plans and presents the information to Senior Management.
- Develops and revises departmental policies and procedures to enhance functions, operational efficiency, and expense reduction.
- Reviews proposed research projects to determine the length, cost, project steps, staffing requirements, and allocation of available resources to each phase of the project.
- Monitors the progress of projects and associated costs. Prepares and monitors the department budget and takes corrective actions to maintain expenses within expected levels.
- Provides technical advice and problem-resolution techniques.
- Reviews departmental activities to ensure compliance with government regulations and the maintenance of required records.
- Monitors the department's safety program and procedures and directs changes to ensure the safety of employees in completing research and development activities.
- Directs and advises personnel in special test procedures to analyze components and physical properties of materials.
- Conducts analyses, interprets test results, and develops non-standard product tests.
- Prepares test solutions, compounds, and agents for use by laboratory personnel in conducting tests.
- Researches and develops custom products and investigates complaints on existing products.
- Recommends measures to improve testing procedures and use of equipment.
Qualifications
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job satisfactorily.
Education
- A bachelor's degree in Chemistry is required, master's degree is preferred.
Experience
- More than ten years of analytical chemistry experience with an emphasis on working with resins and polymers within the paint industry is required.
- Three to five years of supervisory experience in directing the activities of senior chemists in a research environment is required.
- Experience in Research and Development (R&D)
- Strong Project Management skills

Pay: $89,000.00 - $119,000.00 per year
