    We have an exciting opportunity for a Technology Solutions Engineer at UL Research Institutes based in our Evanston, IL office. This role is part of the operations Technology and Innovation team and works with laboratory researchers and shared services IT to develop technology platforms and application solutions that support research initiatives for UL Research Institutes (ULRI). The Technology Solutions Engineer employs knowledge management and project management methodologies, working closely with cross-functional teams to design technology platforms and systems that are reliable, scalable, and aligned with organizational priorities.

    What you’ll learn & achieve:

    • Design technology solutions to support research projects, ensuring the scalability, reliability, and security of technology platforms. Support the scoping, planning, execution, tracking, and monitoring of technology projects that enhance research laboratory success throughout the project life cycle.
    • Identify technology solutions to streamline research technology requirements in consultation with researchers and coordination with Shared Services IT and Program Management.
    • Engage with cross functional teams comprising shared services, operations, researchers, and scientists to enable effective problem-solving, knowledge sharing, and the development of innovative technological solutions; and to ensure that technology platforms align with the overall ULRI Mission.
    • Develop data pipelines and integration solutions to support research innovation and knowledge transfer; to facilitate the collection, storage, and analysis of research data across laboratories and initiatives; and to ensure data security, privacy, and compliance with relevant regulations.
    • Stay current with emerging technologies and assess their potential impact on research initiatives. Make recommendations for the adoption of new solutions that enhance research capabilities.
    • Assist in the resolution of technical issues and provide support to ULRI research teams.
    • Document platform configurations, processes, and best practices.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Professional Education And Experience Requirements For The Role Include

    • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
    • Minimum 4 years of experience in designing, building, and maintaining technology platforms and infrastructure.
