Tool Design Engineer designs and develops tools and machinery used to facilitate and optimize manufacturing processes. Reviews product design and build requirements to determine tooling concepts, design options, testing plans, and specifications. Being a Tool Design Engineer develops designs for fixtures, jigs, gauges, cutting and forming tools, carts, racks, and other items to support production. Utilizes Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to create accurate, complete, and concise design models and documentation to fabricate tools. Additionally, Tool Design Engineer estimates costs, resource requirements, and materials required for tools. May manage the sourcing, quoting, or procurement of purchased tools. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Tool Design Engineer work is closely managed.     Summary: Ideal candidate with a background in tool and die design/fabrication for complex molds. Candidate understands material castings and will be involved in the design stages of molded fiber packaging products. The ideal candidate would possess the knowledge and ability to fabricate both prototype and production tooling in support of sales and the manufacturing process.

    Expectations and Responsibilities:

    At least 5 years’ experience on SPM machines (Southern Pulp Machinery)

    At least 5 years of experience working directly on full setup and installation of SPM 2100 Molded pulp machinery component parts

    At least 5 years of experience working for SPM, machining and programing component parts and tooling for an SPM 2100

    At least 5 years of experience fabricating component parts for SPM 2100 machinery for the company of Atlas Pulp Molded Products LLC

    At least 5 years of experience programing molded pulp tooling for SPM 2100

    At least 5 years of experience understanding Molded pulp tooling design and fitment on an SPM 2100

    At least 5 years of experience in programing settings and parameters to fabricate component parts on an SPM 2100

    At least 5 years of experience fabricating component parts for SPM 2100

    At least 5 years of experience installing production tools on an SPM 2100

    At least 5 years of experience on building molded pulp tooling for an SPM 2100

    At least 5 years of experience in Master Cam to run specific parts and tooling for an SPM 2100

    At least 5 years of experience in AutoCad to run specific parts and tooling for an SPM 2100

    At least 5 years of Edgcam experience to run specific parts and tooling for an SPM 2100

    At least 5 years of experience running/programing a CNC milling machine specific to making machinery parts and tooling for an SPM 2100

    At least 5 years of experience milling SPM 2100 tools on a HAAS VF2 and VF3 machine

    At least 5 years of experience in Moulder setup on an SPM 2100, in conjunction with making component parts and tools to support accurate and high quality production needs

    At least 5 years of experience modifying component parts to support production on an SPM 2100

    At least 5 years of experience designing molded pulp tooling for an SPM 2100

    At least 5 years of experience designing component parts for an SPM2100

    At least 5 years of experience designing the layout and functionality of component parts on an SPM 2100

    Strong mechanical ability associated with mold tooling design, fabrication, repair, and modification.

    Ability to understand complex geometry.

    2 to 5 years’ experience programming, setting up, and operating precision CNC tooling. (3axis) vertical milling machines. 4th axis (rotary table) knowledge is a plus

    Proficiency with CAM programs MasterCAM or similar.

    Proficiency in using HAAS or compatible CNC controller.

    Ability to understand and make edits to CN G-code and Post processor

    Proficiency with 2D and 3D CAD packages, Solidworks, AutoCAD or similar.

    Skills including: work piece control concepts, tolerance stacking, datum controls, and fixturing concepts.

    Able to use & interpret precision measuring devices. (micrometers, Vernier calipers, hand tools & gages).

    Math Ability: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

    Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Outlook; Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel; MAS 500 software; internet software; and manufacturing software.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, including dust and sawdust. The employee is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; risk of electrical shock and vibration.
