Tool Design Engineer designs and develops tools and machinery used to facilitate and optimize manufacturing processes. Reviews product design and build requirements to determine tooling concepts, design options, testing plans, and specifications. Being a Tool Design Engineer develops designs for fixtures, jigs, gauges, cutting and forming tools, carts, racks, and other items to support production. Utilizes Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to create accurate, complete, and concise design models and documentation to fabricate tools. Additionally, Tool Design Engineer estimates costs, resource requirements, and materials required for tools. May manage the sourcing, quoting, or procurement of purchased tools. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Tool Design Engineer work is closely managed. RESPONSIBILITIES:- Structural design of steel buildings applying established engineering practices, model building codes, and company standards
- Design projects large and small, including hangars, schools, gymnasiums, retail centers, churches, sports arenas, and manufacturing facilities throughout the United States, Canada, and Central America
- Work in a team environment with estimating, sales, and drafting to define, clarify, and process projects to meet customers’ needs on individual projects
- Review project plans, specifications and building code requirements
- Convey design information to drafting, using written and verbal communication
- Assist sales, project managers, architects, and builders to determine project requirements and proper utilization of Behlen systems to meet customer needs
- Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with design
- Work directly under licensed engineers toward licensure
Entry Level- B. S. Degree (Civil, Architectural or Structural Engineering)
- 0 to 2 years of experience in low rise building design
- EIT certification or willing to sit for the exam
- Familiarity with AISC specifications
- Familiarity with AISI specifications, ASCE-7 standard, and model building codes is a plus
- Excellent communication skills – verbal and written
- B. S. Degree (Civil, Architectural or Structural Engineering)
- 5 years of experience in low rise metal building design
- P. E. Registration
- Proficiency with AISC, AISI, ASCE 7, and model building codes
- Experience with MBS, RISA, & Microsoft office
