Monitors the research, analysis, and evaluation of investment vehicles and makes decisions and selections in alignment with the organization's goals and risk tolerance. Being an Top Investment Executive oversees an organization's investment activity to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and requirements. Develops, articulates, and communicates the overall investment strategy, vision, and objectives of the organization to achieve long-term growth and profitability. Additionally, Top Investment Executive provides strategic leadership, direction, and guidance to align investment strategies with business goals and market outlook. Oversees and manages the investment portfolio, asset allocation, and diversification strategies to optimize returns, manage risks, and achieve investment objectives. Routinely reviews investment operation policies and procedures and recommends changes to increase efficiency or compliance. May require a master's degree. Typically reports to Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The Top Investment Executive manages a business unit, division, or corporate function with major organizational impact. Establishes overall direction and strategic initiatives for the given major function or line of business.     Minimum Requirements: 

    • 8 years of leadership in a business development/sales role 
    • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in Business Development, Marketing, Communications, Sales, or related commercial subjects preferred 
    • Strong understanding of the institutional limited partner and investment fund ecosystem and market participants 
    • Knowledge of the legal and professional services sectors within the limited partner and investment funds ecosystem – highly desirable 
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills 
    • Ability to effectively manage competing priorities 
    • Strong judgment and ability to make well-reasoned independent decisions 
    • Strategic awareness of business and commercial issues 
    • Self-motivated and independent, able to work with minimal supervision 
    • Project management skills, and aptitude for developing these skills 
    • Strong executive presence and ability to influence others 
    • A high degree of attention to detail 
    • Hardworking and diligent with a keen understanding of client demands 
    • Demonstrated composure when dealing with difficult situations 
    • Invests in, nurtures, and builds a network of productive relationships

    Preferred Requirements: 

    • 10 years of leadership in a business development/sales role, preferably from the investment funds or institutional limited partner ecosystem 
    • JD or MBA - highly desirable 

    What would your day look like: 
    We are searching for a Client Development Executive – Investment Funds Lead to work closely with our nationally ranked U.S. Investment Funds Partners to drive DLA Piper’s market-facing sales initiatives. You will assist in identifying new opportunities and will play a strategic role in expanding key client relationships.  You will work in close collaboration with the firm’s partners, business development, and marketing professionals, you will own core elements of the strategic plan for this important and rapidly growing practice. Metrics for success include both quantitative data and qualitative feedback from internal and external stakeholders.  


    Your primary focus will be to prioritize and drive new strategic clients and relationships, raise the firm’s profile within the investment funds and institutional limited partner ecosystem, and serve as a trusted advisor to DLA Piper attorneys and clients by building and leveraging your industry knowledge and relationships.  You will join an elite team of former company and investment fund executives who are in similar roles and focused on developing other strategic sectors for the Firm.     


    Core responsibilities: 

    • Building and cultivating long term relationships with institutional limited partners and investment fund professionals, placement agents, thought leaders, and other connectors to develop net new client opportunities in the investment funds practice; 
    • Building and cultivating long term relationships with institutional limited partners, investment fund managers, placement agents, thought leaders, and other connectors to develop net new client opportunities in the investment funds practice; 
    • Collaborating with DLA Piper attorneys to drive new client acquisition and expansion of existing investment fund client relationships for DLA Piper in the US; 
    • Advising and guiding current clients on strategic growth initiatives, including financing needs and connecting them to potentially relevant limited partner investors; 
    • Managing key client relationships and connecting clients across the DLA Piper platform for cross-collaborative opportunities globally; 
    • Creating, nurturing, and maintaining a network of institutional limited partners and investment fund managers; 
    • Serving as a source of investment funds market thought leadership both internally and externally; 
    • Serving as an ambassador for DLA Piper at major institutional limited partner and fund manager market programs and events and helping craft and lead such events and sponsorships; 
    • Actively supporting and attending high-level client events, sponsorships, and educational programs to drive sales pipeline outcomes and increase ROI (e.g., CEO dinners, high-profile CLE programs, etc.); 
    • Creating actionable individual business development plans for a select group of partners; 
    • Partnering with other market-facing team members on increasing connectivity and cross-collaborating opportunities within the institutional limited partner and investment funds ecosystem; and 
    • Serving as an internal business development coach to our attorneys.

    Physical Demands, Work Environment, and Other Requirements  
    Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.  


    The expected annual pay range for this position, if hired to work in New York City is $189,950 - $289,695 per year. If hired to work in Palo Alto the expected annual pay range is $198,209 - $302,291 per year. The compensation offered to a candidate selected for employment will be dependent upon various factors, including the candidate’s geographic market, skills, educational and professional background, experience, and overall qualifications. We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance, and 401(k).
