Transplant Nurse Coordinator provides planning and coordination of all facets of clinical care for potential and actual transplant candidates and recipients. Manages referral, evaluation, and pre-transplant data for transplant patients and coordinates the clinical management of post-transplant patients. Being a Transplant Nurse Coordinator develops materials and delivers programs to educate and support patients, families, and clinicians throughout the transplant process. Requires clinical experience in the care and treatment of transplant patients. Additionally, Transplant Nurse Coordinator requires a bachelor's degree of Nursing. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Requires registered nurse (RN). May require certification from a professional organ transplant nursing certification board. Job Summary and QualificationsPOSITION SUMMARY:
This position provides clinical care to patients who are receiving or donating organs, assisting in every phase of organ and tissue donation. This position is responsible for preparing patients for the transplant process, providing education on the procedures, expected recovery and associated risks. Transplant nurses typically have the most contact with the patient and are involved in every step of the organ donation process, from preparing the patient for surgery to monitoring the transplant recipient’s health afterward.
This highly specialized position, in addition to traditional nursing duties, such as taking vitals, administering medication and prepping patients for surgery, provides education and support to transplant recipients and their families throughout the transplant journey, managing everything from identifying potential transplant recipients to ensuring that the donated organs are not rejected by the recipient’s body.
What qualifications you will need:
REQUIRED LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS
1. Current licensure in Texas as a Registered Nurse.
2. BCLS
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
1. 1-year critical care nursing experience; experience with renal transplantation or dialysis preferred;
2. 2-3 years clinical nursing experience or 1-year transplant nursing experience
PREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
1. Bachelor degree in Nursing from an accredited institution preferred
2. Transplant Coordinator experience preferred
3. Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator preferred
4. Bilingual in Spanish preferred
5. Ability to listen, empathize and respond effectively to patients, family, internal and external team members and physicians.
6. Basic computer skills
7. Proficiency in collecting and retrieving data from medical records and other information sources
