Transplant Nurse Coordinator provides planning and coordination of all facets of clinical care for potential and actual transplant candidates and recipients. Manages referral, evaluation, and pre-transplant data for transplant patients and coordinates the clinical management of post-transplant patients. Being a Transplant Nurse Coordinator develops materials and delivers programs to educate and support patients, families, and clinicians throughout the transplant process. Requires clinical experience in the care and treatment of transplant patients. Additionally, Transplant Nurse Coordinator requires a bachelor's degree of Nursing. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Requires registered nurse (RN). May require certification from a professional organ transplant nursing certification board. The Transplant Nurse Coordinator gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Primary Function:
Coordinates the care of transplant patients including pre- and post operative transplant treatment.

Coordinates with multidisciplinary team the evaluation process for potential transplant candidate, including, but
not limited to:• Medical/surgical evaluation,• Psychosocial evaluation,• Educational assessment• Laboratory evaluation• Radiological evaluation• Nutritional evaluation
Interprets serological results of the potential transplant candidate and their implications for transplant
When appropriate, obtains recipient blood type, tissue typing and cytotoxic antibodies according to transplant center protocol
Identifies possible co-morbidities in the transplant candidate and evaluates as indicated. Ensures that patient is assessed for presence of malignancy prior to listing
Educates candidate/family/legal guardian about:• Living donation options• Evaluation process• OPTN regulations• Organ allocation• Waiting phase
• Transplant process• Risks/benefits, including utilization of expanded donors, high risk donors, if applicable.• Post-operative phase including immunosuppressive,therapy and effects.
Potential research protocols of the transplant program.
RN required. CCTC preferred. Minimum 2 years acute care hospital experience; transplant experience preferred.
CCTC Certification preferred. Current BLS provider, ACLS preferred
