Veterinary Assistant prepares treatment room for examination of animals; restrains animals during examination, treatment, or inoculation. Administers injections, performs venipunctures, applies wound dressings, cleans teeth, and takes vital signs of animal. Being a Veterinary Assistant requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. May be required to be certified/licensed. Additionally, Veterinary Assistant is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision of a veterinarian.     Job duties include, but are not limited to :

    Our Veterinary Assistants begin at an entry level position. A typical day requires lots of stocking and cleaning of the entire hospital.

    As the veterinary assistant learns the flow and ways of the hospital, progression to animal restraint and assisting of other support staff is required.

    You will at times also interact with pets and their owners; thus, customer service skills are key. You will work directly with the rest of our veterinary team to assure patients and clients receive the best care possible.

    Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste and potentially contagious diseases.

    Qualifications

    • Ability to receive in a professional manner constructive feedback to maintain hospital efficiency
    • A minimum of a high school degree or equivalent, and must be 18 years of age or older

    Desired Qualifications :

    • A minimum of 1-year experience preferred
    • Flexible scheduling Monday through Friday
    • A willingness to grow in the Veterinary field
    • Avimark experience
    • Experience working in an AAHA accredited veterinary hospital

    Schedule : Flexible scheduling (Monday through Thursday 7 : 00am 7 : 00pm, Friday 7 : 00am - 6 : 00pm), We are Closed on Weekends!!

    SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Ability to sit or stand and work at a computer for long periods of time.
    • Ability to be confident around animals (i.e., dogs, cats, etc. Candidate to confirm species treated with practice leadership for additional clarity.)
    • Client needs and work volume may occasionally require more than 40 hours per week and special working hours to complete essential duties of this job
    • Must have mental capacity and processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
    • Job requires sufficient ambulatory skills in order to perform required duties while working.
    • Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
    • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate other equipment as required.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
    • Hospital teammates are routinely exposed to a variety of animals that may bite, kick or scratch, and on occasion, may be exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological or zoonotic hazards and / or medication / controlled substances.
