Veterinary Technician assists veterinarian with exams, surgeries, and first aid. Collects and documents case history and treatment details. Being a Veterinary Technician monitors vital signs and condition of animals being treated and provides nursing care. Takes X rays, EKG, Ultrasound, and performs various lab test including urinalysis and blood counts. Additionally, Veterinary Technician depending on state regulations, may administer anesthesia, injections, and perform dental prophylaxis, catheterization, and other procedures under supervision of a veterinarian. Instructs pet owners on how to administer medication and other animal care skills. Typically requires an associate degree. Depending on state, may require RVT certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Veterinary Technician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. To be a Veterinary Technician typically requires 3-5 years of related experience. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)

The new veterinary technician will have the opportunity to work very independently and be involved in caseload management.

Qualifications:- Must be a team player who is willing to assist with phone calls, collecting payments, assisting in rooms and surgery, and more
- Exceptional customer service skills and ability to communicate precisely
- Interpret medical records and record client history accurately
- Knowledge of preventative care, surgical procedures, and hospital flow
- Proficient in sample collection to include blood samples, urine, fecal, and skin
- Ability to properly set up and process laboratory samples and tests
- Proficient in anesthesia and surgical monitoring
- A self-starter with the desire to continue to advance one’s knowledge and skillset
- Ability to receive in a professional manner constructive feedback to maintain hospital efficiency
- Assisting DVMs during procedures by restraining animals, conducting tests, monitoring vitals, and administering medications
- Maintaining medical records and communicating with clients on their pets' medical procedures, including the next steps
- Maintaining the treatment room, including maintaining equipment such as anesthetic machines/ monitors, X-ray machines, dental, etc.
- Collecting blood and other samples for testing, placing catheters, providing sedation for diagnostic procedures
