Yard Jockey operates gasoline or diesel powered tractor trailer combination bringing trailers to loading docks to be unloaded. Backs trailer to loading docks, performs safety checks to secure trailer, opens bay doors, and assists dock workers in loading/unloading trailer. Being a Yard Jockey maintains radio or telephone contact with dispatcher to receive delivery or pick up instructions or to receive notice of changes in scheduled delivery or pick up. Typically requires a high school diploma. Additionally, Yard Jockey requires Commercial Driver License (CDL) - Class A. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Yard Jockey works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. To be a Yard Jockey typically requires 1-3 years of related experience. Position Summary Description :
Pick up and deliver containers from various ports (Pasha, Matson, Young Brothers) and deliver to various warehouses, ports, and locations on the island of Oahu.
Safely operatesvarious types of trucks and equipment including pallet jack and forklift. Must also conduct a pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicle and equipment.
The Yard Jockey will also serve as a back-up route driver. Route drivers are responsible for the safe delivery of food products to our various restaurant partners across Oahu.
